Technical Information

Systems

Swimming Plus realizes the importance of accurate and dependable systems for race and business administration. We have invested heavily in the development and constant refinement of these systems that ensure the athlete’s registration is easy and that results are accurate and immediate.

Race number for life

To make it easy for participants to register for their races, we operate a race number for life system. This means that once an athlete signs up for one of our events; they are assigned a race number that remains theirs for all Swimming Plus races in the future.

Athlete information

It is imperative that athletes have email accounts. These email accounts are used to authenticate athletes and are our primary method of communication. Athletes can keep their personal information up to date by logging onto the Swimming Plus website by-way-of their email address as the username.

Race procedures

All athletes must sign-up via the Swimming Plus website. It you have participated in a Swimming Plus event in the past, special care must be taken to ensure that you don’t sign-up again in which case an athlete may land up with more than one race number.

Once athletes have signed up, it is an easy 4-step process to register for races:

Select the event.

  1. Select the event and enter their email address.
  2. Select the races they wish to participate in.
  3. An email is sent to their email address. The email contains a link to a registration confirmation webpage. Athletes must visit this page to confirm their race registration.
  4. Athletes may update their information and pay for their registration at this point. Athletes may choose to opt out of the online credit card payment in which case they will pay for the entry at the race desk on race day.

Athletes are required to present themselves to the race desk on race day at least 30 minutes before the start - which also ensures that all are present for the race briefing. Athletes will be marked as present, be numbered by-way-of body marking and a coloured wrist band; and if they haven’t paid online, they must hand over their payment.

Important:The race desk will not accept any registrations 30 minutes before the official starting time of a race.

Entry fees

Entry fees can be paid online by credit card or with cash at the race desk on race day.

Timing

As we do not use transponders, we require the athlete to show and call out their race number to the officials when finishing through the finish chute. Athletes cooperating in this regard will assist with the accuracy of their results.

Results

The athlete’s time will be SMSed to the cell number we have listed on our system. The race’s results will be available within 30 minutes of the race’s completion on the race desk’s notice board. The day’s results will also be posted on the website in the evening.

Protests can be taken up with the race desk or emailed to racedesk@swimmingplus.com

Course and races

The Marina Mile is held annually over the festive season and our swimming series events are held over weekends and include races like: 10km, 5km, 3km, 1km, 1.6km (Marina Mile only), 500m and a bank where the kids can swim.

The layout of the canals ensures that the courses are spectator-friendly and where onlookers can get really close to the action.

Swimming Plus runs our region’s open water championships (Eastern Province Championship), which usually is incorporated into the events mid-season.

Safety

Our events comply with all of the laws governing public events and safety. Athletes can feel confident that their safety is our primary concern and that we always have a qualified medical team on standby at all of our events.

Marshaling and sanctioning

Where necessary, our events are officiated by Eastern Province Aquatics accredited marshals. Our events may also be sanctioned and recognised by Eastern Province Aquatics and the Cape Long Distance Swimming Association.
